The Road Transport Inspection was established as a successor to the Transport Service Centre. Most notably, the Road Transport Inspection is empowered to stop lorries without the assistance of the Police or the Customs Administration, allowing inspectors to check for overloading and ensure compliance with all legal requirements. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why is the Road Transport Inspection needed?<\/strong><br\/>The primary reason for establishing the Road Transport Inspection is to ensure more effective roadside checks and operational independence, allowing it to function without the presence of police or customs officers. Under this new system, a single vehicle will be inspected by just one inspector, or a maximum of two during weight checks. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Will the Road Transport Inspection also operate on Class II and Class III roads (comparable to secondary and tertiary roads)?  <\/strong><br\/>Primarily, the mobile expert units will focus on motorways and Class I roads (comparable to A-roads) where lorry traffic is the heaviest. However, some units may also conduct roadside checks on lower-category roads; thus, it is possible to encounter the inspectors there as well. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Does it mean that the Police or the Customs Administration will no longer conduct roadside checks?<br\/>P<\/strong>olice officers are still empowered to conduct roadside checks, such as checking the weight of lorries or their technical condition. 7. However, as of 1 July 2025, the Customs Administration lost said powers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Is the Inspection also empowered to stop passenger cars?<\/strong><br\/>Yes. If the conveyance comes under the scope of the Czech Road Transport Act (e.g., the carriage of dangerous goods) or if the technical condition of the vehicles visibly fails to meet standard requirements, then it is.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How do similar public<\/strong> <strong>authorities function abroad?<\/strong><br\/>There are public authorities abroad similar to the Road Transport Inspection. Nevertheless, these authorities function according to the laws of the respective countries. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Does it mean that the establishment of the Road<\/strong> <strong>Transport Inspection will result in higher costs for conducting roadside checks?<\/strong><br\/>No, the operating costs should remain comparable to those of the Transport Service Centre. Moreover, the number of employees will also stay the same. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How many employees will the Road Transport Inspection have?<\/strong><br\/>The Road Transport Inspection will have approximately 80 employees, 58 of whom will conduct fieldwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Is the Road Transport Inspection also empowered to check for improperly secured cargo?<\/strong><br\/>Yes, checking for improperly secured cargo is one of the core powers which has already been vested in the Transport Service Centre and is now entrusted to the Road Transport Inspection. Therefore, the Road Transport Inspection will continue to conduct said checks in order to ensure road safety in Czechia. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Is the Road Transport Inspection authorised to use blue warning beacons?<\/strong><br\/>Yes. To ensure the effective execution of roadside checks, the inspectors drive vehicles equipped with priority lights in order to divert vehicles out of the traffic flow to conduct said checks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" data-src=\"https:\/\/insid.gov.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3-6-1024x538.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3443 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/insid.gov.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3-6-1024x538.webp 1024w, https:\/\/insid.gov.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3-6-300x158.webp 300w, https:\/\/insid.gov.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3-6-768x403.webp 768w, https:\/\/insid.gov.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3-6.webp 1200w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/538;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Road Transport Inspection in figures<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Road Transport Inspectorate has 80 employees, 58 of whom conduct fieldwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Road Transport Inspection utilises 22 mobile expert units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Another 4 specialised units focus on roadside emission testing and roadside vehicle inspection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each mobile expert unit is able to conduct between 6 and 10 roadside checks per day. The exact number depends on the complexity of the check and the severity of the findings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-content-justification-left is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-187864bd wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goals of the Road Transport Inspection <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A primary objective of the Road Transport Inspection is to enhance safety on roads and motorways. Furthermore, by preventing damage caused by overloaded lorries, the Inspection preserves the integrity of the road network, mitigates congestion resulting from frequent road repairs, and prevents the waste of public funds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A key advantage of the Inspection&#8217;s transformation is the increased efficiency of roadside checks, resulting from the Inspection&#8217;s independence from the Police and the Customs Administration. This allows police and customs officers to reallocate their operational resources to other core duties. The work carried out by the Inspection aims to prevent unfair business practices in freight transport.
